Me And Cubby...
This is the day..finally. Penny was so excited, and more than a little worried. Cubby had gotten her driver's license,and , true to her word, had set out with all haste to bring their friendship even closer together. Penny had loved Alora from the very first...seemingly a younger version of herself, Alora had touched Penny's heart in a deeply personal way. The struggles with which Penny dealt..the severe social phobias, the lack of self confidence, the desirefor true love, even the tendency to obsess over things, with very little provocation. The friendship had been effortless..every day bringing more sharing and discovery of even more similarities. Alora was the only one there when Penny's heart was breaking, and she was barely able to make it through the day..always sure to complement and sympathize, Cubby had proven to be a loyal , loving friend. And the friendship had continued to deepen through the years...they had waited all these years to actually meet, and were both very anxious to!! Finally, today, their wait would be over..though Penny was very worried about Alora driving so far on her own..Cubby lived several hundred miles away..and Penny still had no idea how Alora had convinced her Mom to let her take a journey of that distance!! She had come so far since they first met..now a confident young woman, courageous enough to undertake this journey on her own.and Penny was very proud of her!!
Penny looked at the clock...Cubby should be here by now, she thought. She got up and walked to the door she had been peering through...no sign of her , yet. She walked out onto the porch. The day was bright and sunny..the azaleas in full bloom, making the day seem like a gift, already...and the big red bow on top was her AloraPeace. She sat down in the lavender rocker, facing the direction from which she knew Cubby would appear. The soft wind stirred the several sets of wind chimes strewn about...the gentle melody adding a touch of magic to the air. All five cats were lounging about, an unusual occurance..as if they knew someone special was coming and wanted to be onhand to pay thier respects. Penny couldn't imagine being any happier. Her Tiger was inside, a miracle in himself, and now , after all this time, she'd be able to hug her Cubby...something she had wanted to do for a very long time.
Penny really heard her before she ever saw her..and knew instantly that it was Cubby...John Denver belting out Take Me Home Country Roads was a dead giveaway!!!!!! She waved furiously..welcoming Alora and guiding her the last few feet..so excited to see her!!!! She smiled broadly as Alora navigated into the dirt driveway. WOW!! She was sooo beautiful in person!! Penny had seen many pictures over the years, but none did justice to the dark beauty Cubby had become. Then she was out of the car and into Penny's arms...both giggling and crying excited tears of joy!!! "Finally , Cubby!! It's so good to finally be together!! " They break their embrace, but continue to walk , arms around each other...up onto the concrete porch. Sugar meows and rubs against Alora's legs, welcoming her to the family.."Come on Cubby...I want to show you your room...and...I want you to meet my Tiger....!!!"
They look into each other's eyes, eyes filled with tears..one last embrace...it was just as Penny always knew it would be..there was nothing between them, nothing standing in the way of an ever deepening friendship..only her sweet Alora..finally here...and so very many things to see and talk about...finally!!
