I Enjoy Meaningful Conversations

Don't you hate it when someone asks a question, just to answer it theirself?
Or when it's a big question with a big answer, and they give like a 4 word response?
That's when you know they were't actually interested, and their motives weren't actually because they cared, or even because they wanted to talk about it and follow up with a reply.
I see through that shit every time. It gets old, ya know? I'm sure a lot of you have also experienced this?

Don't we all do that, though?

Ask questions just to exchange words? A question is about getting to know someone. It's often about something important to them. Bringing it up and then brushing it off without comment, is something that makes me feel bad about sharing in the first place when it happens to me, so though I might not be super excited about somebody's passions, I still try to show the respect and give it the focus and importance I think they deserve.

It's difficult to have truly deep and meaningful conversation though when you are listed to a few lines of text and it is quite easy to take comments out of context when you cannot see the person you are talking to.

Also difficult when you have autocorrect switched on!

Maybe you're right. I don't socialize in real life, so writing and online chatting is all I do. Maybe other people don't expect to have meaningful conversations over the internet, but it's possible with a little extra effort.

I think getting to know someone always takes time and if you don't know the person you are talking to it is easy to misunderstand them.

Oh yes, I agree. Getting to know someone does take time, and I feel like being considerate and caring about the responses to our questions is how we can encourage them to open up. That's what works on me at least.
