Get honest with people about who you are, what you want and how you expect to be treated. Standards only scare off people not meant for you....

The worst expectations I know are hidden expectations. For example, some people want you to split the bill without even looking at it because they have confused themselves into believing that it's a generous thing to do, but they've done it for so long that they're not even doing it out of generosity anymore, but instead habit. If you don't split the bill, then they will silently get irritated and think themselves above you, which should prove to themselves that they're not generous at all. Just make it clear to everyone what you want.
