Helping people is like a lighter (advice?)

You go to the store to get yourself a lighter, Your happy because you can finally light that candle you risked everything for. But on your way home you see a poor old women cold so you use some of your lighter to light her fire, she smiles but you just go on. You see a girl outside a bar crying, you walk up to her and light her a cigarette, she thanks you as you walk off. Now you don't have much fluid left in that lighter but it's okay because you helped a few people. But you just keep helping others over and over and when your finally home, your out of lighter fuel and all you can do it stair at that candle that you worked hard for and you don't even get to experience it. Helping people is good but when your addicted to helping others it hurts you in the long run. Trust me I know. So is it worth it?

As long as it doesn't involve money, risk or a lot of time keep helping others. Don't assume that a person can't fuel their own engine.

Poor analogy. Love grows by being given away, whatever might happen to a candle. I know that too.
