Paying people not to work is never a good idea. It makes people lazy, disrespectful to themself and ...well..hell...I was proud to see what I could do, obtain, save.
Take away challenges... make everything free.... God helps us all!
I'm tired of my hard working tax dollar supporting the unmotivated people.
Sorry...touched on a subject that triggers me.

hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB So how many welfare recipients do you know?
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 me personally? Like 3
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB And they all thank you for paying their way in life?
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 ? Lol no they don’t. Why would I want them to? I’m not a mafia don lol. They don’t have to kiss my ring
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB Well you were saying how grateful such people were in your experience so I thought I would explore your experience. Sadly most of the welfare recipients I know have an over developed sense of entitlement.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 lol how many welfare recipients do YOU personally know?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB I work with homeless people running a nonprofit meant to find employment for those who live on the street or shelters. I know a lot of people on welfare and and well aware of the various scams they run. I knew family on welfare who had a disabled son. He was working full time as a finishing carpenter and they had a farm that they were renting out. Their welfare cheque was more than most people working for a living. They saved enough money from all their income sources to buy a house. Then welfare realized they had been scammed and came after the family. They lost the house and the farm and were reduced to living off the wages of the husband.

@hippyjoe1955 i said personally. If we’re counting people we work with I also work with homeless people you big nerd
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB I know these people personally. I could likely tell you the names of their children and ex spouses. I know these people very well. Many of them I consider my friends. Of those who 'graduate' from my program keep in touch with me for many years after they leave my office. I am heading out for coffee with one such person tomorrow. He is now installing windows. He had a terrible alcohol addiction and lost his wife and daughter both of whom want nothing more to do with him. He is still paying off his owing child support.

@hippyjoe1955 do you ask/expect them to thank you for paying their way in life as you asked me?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB Nope. I don't pay their way. I find them meaningful employment
ShadowWorker · 61-69, F
@hippyjoe1955 blessings to you
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 lol do you expect them to thank you for the welfare they received before they got to you?
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB No. Why would I? Many of them do thank me but I certainly don't expect it.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 then why grill me on it?? 😂😂😂
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB I only asked because you raised the topic. Go back and read what you wrote.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 lolll I was talking about just people I’ve given money too personally. Not welfare recipients. Why don’t *you* ho back and read what I wrote? 😂
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB And how much do you give and to how many? I operate with the question. "Are you stuck or do you want to be here". If you want to be here any money I give will just be used to perpetuate their present state whether it is drugs or booze or what ever other addiction they may have. If they are stuck because of a sudden loss of job or other disaster then I am more than willing to give them as much money as I can. Those who are thus helped are usually grateful but that isn't what your original idea was. You were talking about a government program that entitled all women to a basic income. That is not charitable giving that is welfare.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 yeah yeah look i don’t need your life story. And it’s not a contest. I give what I can in all the ways that I can and I work with homeless people too. Glad you help too. Just thought it was stupid you asked if they ever thanked me for being on welfare as if that was a reasonable expectation lol
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB Since you don't know the recipients of your tax supported charity...
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 you don’t either lol. For all you know they are 99% great people who just need a little help. And *not* these ungrateful lazy slackers you seem think are sucking everyone dry
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB I said I did know a lot of people on welfare. I even recounted the life of one such family. When you work in the field I work in you get to know a lot of people on welfare. Sometimes I even refer people to the welfare office when they can no longer work due to brain damage from their addictions or other illnesses that prevent them from finding work. One fellow living on the street has cancer of the bowel. He asked me for help so I got him on welfare. Another had a problem with his hip and I referred him to welfare. Both of them said they wanted to work after years of booze and drugs but obviously they simply couldn't. The fellow with cancer has had a recurrence last month and I hope he is able to fight it off like he did last time. The fellow with the hip problem was slated for hip replacement surgery but he has MRSA so no one is sure if he can go through with the operation. He came close to losing his arm to MRSA 5 years ago.
NoahB · 31-35, M
@hippyjoe1955 yeah well sorry to hear that but it’s not uncommon. That’s why I think welfare is good. Lots of hurt people who can’t work.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@NoahB I never said it was bad. I maintain that unneeded welfare such as you are proposing is a great harm.
