Addiction really wreaks havoc on families.Seeing the healing that is possible through changed behaviors and rigorous self-examination is an awe-inspiring thing.I try not to give up hope.
It's 16 years after I managed to put down the bottle and dummy dust and attendant insanity and I'm always seeking ways to encourage and support those who struggle with this.On Weds I go back to cooking dinner for about 50 of our community's most vulnerable, after about a month off-the other volunteers are super glad to have me back on board and it does me a lot of good as well.
As an added bonus I had a quick heartfelt chat with Dave the kitchen engineer at my super fancy retreat summer job and as a result I found he swung by and filled our fridges and freezers with leftover luxury goods,so it looks like I will be dishing out top quality lamb stew !
I don't see govenment, the prison system or our overburdened mental health outreach programs effectively addressing this crisis, but I do see regular folks making a difference one-on-one,so keep up the good work!
