I Like Helping People Less Fortunate

Except for when they curse me out, because they don't want the food, they want money to go get drugs. 😕

I don't give people money, I really don't have "spare" change, but I volunteer at the mission downtown and have given people the address. If they're hungry they can eat as much as they want for free, and there are beds and showers, too. Many years ago a young man (who looked fit and able-bodied, could probably lift boxes and work stock @warehouses for more money than I was earning at the time) begged me for $ so he could get some food. I'd been headed home from working the graveyard shift and had stopped by McD's; I offered him my breakfast, figuring I'd cook at home. He took it with a funny look, didn't thank me, and when I looked back he was throwing it in the trash. That made a lasting impression on me.
