I Love a Good Conversation

Why do people ask "Can I ask you something?" in the middle of a convesration???

When they just asked me questions, I asked them questions and then they ask to ask a question..in the middle of a conversation of questions....hahah

I'll generally just do it to make people think I'm going to ask them something important before asking the most benign question possible
