Painted Smiles Could Save The World
by: Rob Paquin
I see you there all proud and pleased
With that family and the life you’ve led
I know that painted smile on your face
As you put the kids to bed.
I see it fade away too soon
As you make your way through the chores
Then it’s gone when you turn the T.V. on
And feel the way your soul’s obscured
10 minutes into the evening news
The anxiety just keeps kicking
But you got your painted smile
For tomorrow morning in the kitchen
You watch the world keep turning round
As you stare at innocent faces
Wondering if things will change
So they can assume their rightful places
But all the worries and the care
The endless love you feed them
You wonder if it will be enough
To keep the world from trying to bleed them
So keep that painted smile close
And always shine it down on them
The ones who haven’t had a choice
Your innocent children
And maybe the world isn’t really gone too far
You kids could rise to give the world a cleanse
But only if they believe in the hope
Your painted smile gave to them
