We hear so much about Democrats needing black voters, younger voters, swing voters- What about leftist voters?-

Assuming that last segment was intended to be sarcastic... Democrats are often associated with special interests. The party, as whole, lacks a clear set of core values. Case in point, 90% of the blacks vote for the Democratic Party. Interestingly, currently, only 50% of blacks support gay marriage. The figure has risen since Obama's presidency, prior to, only 35% of blacks supported gay marriage. The conclusion is that over time, African Americans and other minorities have shifted their values to align with political affiliations.
