If I absolutely could not deal with their needs, I would find someone who could. I believe that when you take something into your care, it's then your responsibility...

@MikefromEP: I'd try to find a home for them myself. The SPCA already has enough of a burden, and they are not all no-kill...
It's also a very stressful situation to put an animal in... imagine how depressed they would be. It breaks my heart that people even consider it. I get that there are situations where there may be no other alternative...
But I do think frivolously "discard" animals when they think it's become an inconvenience to them.
