It was incredible. My heart was so full. It was something I needed. I learned plenty, and I think the family of the man who took his life was comforted knowing something positive was done in his name.
One of the brochures. There was an extensive amount of information on almost ANY mental health issue, not just depression. Everything from Schizoaffective Disorder to Borderline Personality Disorder.
It was mostly a positive mood, but some people were clearly fighting back tears as they remembered loved ones. It was hard not to be moved myself.
Mental health issues are unbelievably awful, but you have to do something. This was my something.
@GoFish I'm not a professional, but he left a note in which he used phrases like "my brain is broken" and that he felt like a "burden" to everyone, signs of possible depression. He may have snapped under the pressure of finishing school or anxiety about the future. His example is what motivated me to make the calls, he had everything to live for. I didn't know him, but I was sad, I was angry, I felt like he deserved better. And, I've seen this story too many times.
People should know what to look for(if indeed there were signs). We can't save everyone, but even if we save ONE person, that is an amazing thing.
It's even worse when suicidal people are at peace with their choice to end their lives and appear happy as a result. :(
