Would you rather talk it over like a civilized human being or be tricked and manipulated into it like some sort of circus animal?

The first one, but seems that people have forgotten how to have civilized conversations and productive debates. Sadly, it doesn't speak well for the future of our society.

The key is respect for everyone another, not who's out to win a debate. To give your partner a fair chance and really listen to what they're saying, and vice versa without interruption, and if a solution can't be reached, then maybe a compromise between both can make the whole thing a win-win situation where both are satisfied. I think that's the fair way.

Obviously the former but we suffer the latter far more often.

But then again, dueling to the death used to be considered civilized.
