Why if the country is Great Britain, and the people are British, do they all seem to speak English?

Well in fact Wales has its own language and I think parts of Scotland have their own abbreviation of language. Also I would argue that many English people do not actually know how to speak English properly and another thing people from the north and south of England are speaking the same language but it’s often so much different to each other.
