Why would someone with a law degree choose to not work as a lawyer and do something completely different from his qualification?
. . . and settle for a lot less money?

Where I live less than half of law grads are practicing ten years after graduation. A law degree is a good ticket to have for many positions and the practice is quite a grind and is definitely not for everyone.
