Be smarter than they are and play the game better than they do. To be smarter doesn't necessarily mean to be more intelligent, it means to have better strategy.

@SW-User There will always be office politics in play at work. It's a game like any other. You get used to it and you learn how best to handle it. Sometimes you can use another person's aggression or passive aggression against them simply by shining a light on it.
