My late husband kept the noisemaker from a stuffed monkey our dogs eviscerated and played it to telemarketers. Wild jungle cries.
No the damage is done before we pick it up, its the harassment and the presumptuousness, they do infomercials on the message now. No real person is ever there.
So it doesn't matter what happens when u answer, that just gets you on fifty more call lists.

@Stilltryinghard You're probably right. I think they keep data on whether a number gets answered or not. It doesn't matter if it's you, the answering machine, or an elephant answering the phone; statistically it counts as a 'pick-up'. I've pulled the plug on my landline because of these calls; they used to come in every day - but after a few months, when I dialled the number 1471 (to identify the last caller) the last one was days ago.

We have voice mail on our cell phones, but not on our home phone. So if a telemarketer calls while we are using that phone, that IS the sound they will hear!

@DrWatson I need to check into that. Every five minutes, all day long - RING! RING! And persistent, too.

I have a landline that no one has the number too...I keep it to locate my frequently lost cell phone...so when it rings it is always a telemarketer...when and if I do answer I say " HELLO! you're ON THE AIR!!"
