If the person you're talking through PM hasn't responded to you in a week, should you give up?

No definitely don't give up over that.
While it's true some people expect a message ever minute and hate on you if you haven't responded quickly, i think it's healthy to have some decent gaps. Maybe if you were madly in love it might be different, but we all have real life lives going on so waiting a day, or two or ten for a reply seems normal to me.

@SW-User Usually it's the other way around, the guy responds 50 times a day and the girl waits hours or days. But i wouldn't read too much into it just yet. There's a lot of reason why someone has suddenly taken longer to respond. There's literally a lot of real life issues that could come up that could have distracted them. Still, if you like them or were waiting on a reply, it's difficult for sure.
