Find friends or family that has something you might like, get yourself invited aboard and try driving it. Offer to get it on and off the trailer for them. Experience some of what ownership is like (without pouring money into it) before jumping in. There's a reason that many people say a boat is a hole in the water that your pour money into. That's not a bad thing, but just go into this with your eyes open. So many of my friends went too big, bought a big fancy boat and end up not using it. My stepdad and his friends generally have small fishing boats with little outboards and love going out, putting around and fishing. Well, that and drinking beer.
