Why is there a D in fridge but not in refrigerator ?

It's the same reason there's a B in Bill but none in William - but I don't know what that reason is.

@Mamapolo2016 William is derived from the French "Guillaume" and connected to the Welsh "Gwilym"..... There's no B in that either lol
