Today I am officially a Mexican lol 😂

My husband was laughing at me at the Mexican consular office
“So the gringa wants to be Mexican?!”

I laughed and said “hey hey hey! I’d like to visit Mexico as often as I want without waiting in line for 30 minutes for my permit, plus I’d like to claim my share of your properties when you pass away”

He laughed harder then lol 😂

What’s a gringa? That sounds like something I wanna add to my vocabulary now.

@NickiHijab Lol it’s a way of saying American born citizen.
That’s basically how countries south of the border say American/ NonSpanish speaking

@NickiHijab Careful the context you use it in, there are many who take gringo/gringa as an insult.

Yes! @UndeadPrivateer is very right!!
I wouldn’t use it improperly.
My husband and I use it between ourselves and our family in a playful way.
Some may take offense to it.
It’s one of those words that can be said with an undertone of malicious intent.

@KaysHealingPath Yeah, I'd lump it in with terms like "whitey" and "cracker." It can be joking or lighthearted or it can be a thinly veiled insult. The origin of it is a lyric from a song the U.S. troops sang when invading Mexico, "Green grows the grass on the infantry." "Green grows" was interpreted by the locals as "gringoes" and was used to refer to anyone of apparent European descent.

Never mind. I’ll stick to racial slurs against my own race.

Jk.

Interesting @UndeadPrivateer

I’d never use the other two terms
Nor would anyone in my family

@KaysHealingPath Didn't figure you for the sort that would. :P
