Be a person of character: honest, faithful, dependable, responsible, unselfish.
Emotional maturity: don't play stupid games. Grow up. => Sulking, silence treatment, not talking about things, nagging, using anger to not have to be responsible...
Foster relationship skills: Admit when you're wrong - not doing so makes you look ugly; listening; conflict management; affirmation; affection. Never put the other person down even in jest. You don't have to argue, by the way. Mature people just constructively resolve things.
