Shares In A 'Charity'

The background of this is I have worked as a charity worker for Cancer Charities in the past, and I have been offered a position working for an annual event which helps raise funds for four Cancer Charities.

However, I have found out that the organisers of the event want me to put money into SHARES in their event which is more a business than a charity.

Is this dodgy? I thought that charities/causes took donations and then spent them where needed. I have also found that they have £25,000 'cash at bank' from donations which were meant to help cancer victims!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the details the Charities Commission hold for them? That's always a good place to start...

@WelshLovely Fantastic, many thanks! I know that they are registered with Companies House, which first made me suspicious. I'll prepare a letter to the Charities Commission before bed and get it sent off first thing tomorrow :)

@BookOfSouls85 I'd check the Charities Commission website before you write to them. You may get the information you want a lot quicker that way.

If you need any help give me a yell....

some invest some put into an account for distribution.

uh, best you can do is talk to other agencies asking about this charity and if they've worked with them or know anyone.

or go to your local city hall and ask about this.

have you researched them online to see who's said what?

what bank? have you talked with them?

organizations must do what they gotta do to fund but well, most orgs are bleed dry also from the inside.

this is probably the case. most of that money, as usual, won't see the light of day for any one but the higher ups.
It sounds bad to me.

@Mondayschild Definitely sounds iffy, but hopefully following WelshLovely's advice I'll find out what they know.
