wendigo, an evil spirit of north part of north america that brings the cold with it driving the animals away to make it easier for the wendigo to bore into the minds of the already starving and drive them to eat each other, turning them into possessed cannibalistic husks who cannot even be recognized as human by those who find them, like the donner party for example. :)
