Anyone know what tadpoles eat?

We saved a few from a rapidly drying puddle about a week ago and now they are starting to hatch. It's been so cold out that the water around here is icy still. I want to put them back out soon but I'a bit concerned the shock would finish them right now.

flake fish food and yes... the temp change in water would not be good. Do like you do a new fish... let the container sit in the midst of the puddle before turning them loose. I do this every year... I keep water jugs by the mud holes to keep them in water...and I feed them. Love watching them grow legs and hop off.

@Echoing yeah it's cool, I haven't had tadpoles since I was a kid.

@Echoing we've just been out in the puddles from the snow melt, never too old for a bit of splashing about I say :)
