the snow continues to fall, it is unrelenting...

soon the roads will be impassable...and soon after that it will begin. Crazed cannibalistic zombies roaming this once-beautiful valley, having given up on driving their 4 by 4s to Save-On or even the 7-11, they will once again feast on the innocent, the trusting, and the weak...

I miss having a nice snow or two in the winter.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti does it stay a day or 2, then melt? That would be good
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@lorne13 last year we had a couple of snows that didn't last 24 hours, this year we had some flakes and they didn't even cover the ground and were gone the next day. Last two winters were really short before the spring-like weather started, 3 weeks year before last, 5 weeks last year and it seems like we are finished with winter now because some trees are budding out (Bradford pears) now, and saw a robin two days ago.

@cherokeepatti sounds like a more civilized climate. Actually this area needs the snow because it's usually a long dry summer so the snow melt in spring is most of the year's water supply, but I don't have to like it lol

@lorne13 We need a longer period in the winter to kill the bugs because they don't die off in milder winters. I've killed at least 30 flies in my sun room and house in the past couple of weeks, killed about 8 yesterday....don't know where they are breeding, maybe off the squirrel that got trapped between the sheet metal liner and the chimney.

@cherokeepatti poor squirrel, curiosity isn't always a good thing, I guess. Vancouver is the same, bugs love the warm wet winters. flies appearing whenever the sun shines, and lawns full of fleas waiting for a dog cat or coyote to go by

@lorne13 He probably was looking for a warmer place to stay at night, he wasn't the first to get down there, but the other one eventually found his way through the walls and made it all the way over to the other side of the house where he scratched and clawed and barked for about 24 hours before he decided to turn around and find his way to the garage and escape through the hole in the wall above the water heater in that closet, I knew it as soon as I heard things being overturned and knocked off shelves.

@cherokeepatti damn squirrels
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@lorne13 Had to repair the siding that they pulled loose to get in, they've torn up all the vent cover on the under side of the eaves (one pregnant squirrel got in the walls and died, the wall between the laundry room and kitchen, it was summer and stank for weeks. That was about 10 years ago.

@cherokeepatti major pests arent they, ones around here seem to stay in the trees or maybe they are hibernating now
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@lorne13 oh they aren't hibernating here, sitting in my bird feeder several times a day helping themselves to the sunflower seeds.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti very generous of you
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@lorne13 I've gotten closer to a squirrel when I was refilling the bird feeder, like less than 2 feet away,and he turned around and watched and didn't flinch.... the little gray kitten and her older friend both will meow for food and approach me and when they get about 10 feet from me both start growling waiting for me to drop the food and leave.
lorne13 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti lol youre invading their personal space. Ive seen squirrels seem to adapt quickly to having people close to them

@cherokeepatti You're very fortunate as i am with feeding wildlife.
