No. Narcissism is a disorder, not a disease. And it's a serious disorder that causes grief to all who encounter a narcissist.
Serenitree · F
@Serenitree sorry, egocentric is a synonym for narcissistic. My mistake.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
@Serenitree yes but people are able to hide it these days very well
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda they always were. Narcissism hasn't changed. The only thing that has changed is that we, the laymen of the world, are more aware of them and actually have a name to put to them, but that doesn't mean every greedy SOB we run into is a narcissist.

No very one is not but still the most selfless work too has a bit of narcissism involved
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda I think you are mistaking pride and feeling happy with narcissism. Narcissism has no basis in kindness. A narcissist will not do anything for anyone just because it would be a nice thing to do. If there's no reward in it for them, they will let someone die rather than dial 911. And they would never understand if someone asked them how they could just ignore that person who could have been saved with a kind act. They are puzzled by kindness and they don't believe anyone is any different. They honestly believe there are two kinds of people in the world. The users, and those who aren't smart enough to be users so they are the used.

@Serenitree what I am saying is that people don't do things because it's their responcebility but they do because they want to show others what they can do
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda I understand. That is not narcissistic. I think you really don't understand what true narcissism is. It isn't just showing off to impress people with how great you are. It is beyond that.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
Yeah but it's just my opinion
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda yes. Okay.

Your mind is made up. I'll stop trying to confuse with the facts.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
No infact mind should not be made up for life so you aren't confusing it's just fine
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda good. But you should really learn more about this particular subject.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda m not kidding. Psychiatric disorders are really complex and a very interesting topic. There is so much we don't understand about why people do what they do. I used to think that you just had to realize that you had this (whatever) disorder and you could work on changing yourself, but it doesn't happen.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
@Serenitree well I know you aren't kidding And I was not laughing at you but agreed but I also think a person can work on their own character(to be precise disorder) but yes it's tough and rare but definately not impossible
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda True, not impossible. Unless they have no desire to change, and narcissists do not believe there is anything wrong with them, so they see no need for change.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
Yes indeed unless that is the case
Serenitree · F
@Mohonchanda Sorry. I've been hounding you. I do apologize. This topic happens to be one of my pet projects. Probably because I've been fighting my own personal demons all my life.
Mohonchanda · 26-30, M
@Serenitree hounding? Not at all it's fine infact it's great to see someone who continues the topic for long cause I am like that too(I hope) and it's tough to find people like that
