Not at all doomed. You are just seeing the true nature of our experience. We are all 5 minutes from death...and moments from suffering. Each person has pain and joy. Some more or less than others by pure randomness and sometimes choice. Definitely you want to emphasize and care, but never pity. The act of pity puts you above someone. And we are all equal.
