Do you still feel emphathy towards humanity?

I ask this because I've been slowly losing the ability to feel empathy towards people. I think it's okay to feel sympathy and all that but no one wants sympathy. They want to feel like you understand and try to relate to their pain not just pity their pain.

I just don't feel like I have the ability to care about the common persons "sad" situations the way I used to. Like natural death, divorce, break ups, other common life "difficulties." I just think everyone goes through that and people should just accept it and be thankful they aren't being abused, tortured, sold etc.

But still, it makes me sad because I can see and feel the change and I can't stop it. Some people are affected by things I consider small issues but that's no reason to dismiss it. I just can't understand people anymore the way I used too. Am I just doomed to be a selfish asshole like the rest of humanity?

Not at all doomed. You are just seeing the true nature of our experience. We are all 5 minutes from death...and moments from suffering. Each person has pain and joy. Some more or less than others by pure randomness and sometimes choice. Definitely you want to emphasize and care, but never pity. The act of pity puts you above someone. And we are all equal.

i feel it... because there's more who want good than those who enforce their inabilities and try to pontify it in their little, dictatorial way.
