1969 in Denver. I was in the USAF. I was in uniform. An elderly gentleman wearing a beret stopped me. He spoke in English with a French accent, asked to shake my hand. I obliged . Then he said how grateful he was to the Americans in the military because the Americans liberated his home country of France from the Nazis. I’ve always held that close. My dad served in France, (Metz) Patton’s 3rd Army, 5th infantry division aka the Red Diamond.

@soar2newhighs In late January 1969 my Dad's enlistment at Offut AFB ended ten days after my older brother was born, he was head cook at the mess hall.
