It's crazy how we're all just being marched to our death together and nobody has any realistic plan to stop it.

You know what I'm talking about.

@BlueVeins Very scientific! 🤓 Are you saying that eventually, it will simply be warmer everywhere? If things play out like this anyways ~ the problem is that no one cares what happens after they themselves are gone, so perhaps the current level of industry will continue until it's too late. /=

Yeah pretty much.

No. Global warming is happening on a short enough timespan that political decisions made today will affect us within our lifespans. The issue is that the world has an unfathomably large amount of money invested into fossil fuel infrastructure & animal ag, and the people who own it all are immensely wealthy and powerful. They've long since hollowed out the political system, bought out parts of the media, and done everything in their power to maintain the status quo. At this point, anti-environmentalism has metastasized into a a self-perpetuating part of global culture and does not necessarily respond to material incentives.

As global warming progresses, the resources people need to get by are going to get more and more scarce. In times of restricted resources, people feel more and more of an incentive to fight one another for a larger and larger piece of that shrinking pie. This is an extremely difficult reaction to prevent and has existed in every human society, for all of history in some form. This competitive, zero-sum mindset is anathema to the kind of collaborative action and personal sacrifice that the solutions to global warming demand.

@Nightwings Also warrants mentioning that Russia wants global warming. Most countries will lose far more arable land than they gain, but Russia will gain more arable land than they lose as the permafrost melts. Also more mineral wealth in Siberia will become accessible to them. As more southerly countries become uninhabitable, they will have their pick of climate refugees; and with more war, they will have more chances to intervene and create client states. That's part of why they've been backing right wingers in other countries.
