More walkable neighborhoods, less cars, more cafes, and more mass transits so our cities are not full of traffic, noise, pollution, and parking lots. I like small treets with cafes and people riding bikes and walking.

SW. Or something like it. Not kidding. Something that helps create communities.
That's an incredibly thoughtful way to see a real problem. Most people just notice it, but you're actually trying to dream up a solution, which is amazing. What if you combined your two passions? What if a 'community board game night' wasn't just about games, but specifically about bridging that gap? Imagine an 'Intergenerational Game Night' at the library or a community center, specifically marketed to connect younger people who want to be part of a community with older folks who have wisdom and stories to share. The games are just the icebreaker.😀

@Iknowyourouttheresomewhere I love the way you brought that together with awesome words! It s exactly what I'm hoping for. The intergenerational term is what I've been trying to come up with. My brain couldn't come up with that word for some reason!!!! Thank you!!!! Intergenerational Game night is GREAT and so is all the phrasing between "to connect younger people ....with older folks..." This puts a smile on my face! Thanks!
@Mindful Welcome my dear sweet friend 🌻😀

When do you consider yourself to be old?

Different societies have diverging views on this.

In the UK, people of retirement age are considered of no economical value and are disposable. Watch out for this one.

Some societies are more integrated. In Spain, people go out as families. Multigenerational.

@peterlee I think I have to be open to being considered old by anyone who is ten years younger of any age. Which any generation can be considered old by another generation. [My mother is 91 and I enjoy her very much. :-) I'm 58. When I was in my 30's my students thought I was old]

@Mindful Students always kept me young. I worked with troubled and dysfunctional fifteen year olds. No time to age there🤣

Keep in mixed age communities. This is what the Spanish do well.

I avoid churches that are full of people in their seventies and eighties. Seeing God as an insurance policy.

Being an artist, that cuts through ages and cultures.

@peterlee Thank you! good sound advice! I've made so many errors and poor choices in life... and I like to call it experience credits....so I avoid Church...I don't like shocking people or being judged...I mean...I'm guilty...in a selfish way... like well I want to know about things from my own personal experience...and confirm what's true and not true. I also have a GREAT deal of respect and admiration for science and history and some relugeous people think natural observations/facts are non Christian.

air conditioning and cell phones have killed friendly neighborly friendships. we no longer have front porches spend the evening and visit. elderly could find companionship working in schools\daycare centers with toddlers.

It's really community clubs...doing charity, arts, games or reading...there's a book called Bowling Alone...I haven't read it, but I see it referred to a lot regarding this topic. I think you are right, this is a growing concern...has been for a while.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@fun4us2b that's a very good point!!! I had to fight with myself to get over the fear of the awkwardness of stepping out of my comfort zone, go out alone to discover some social outlets

@Mindful I guess it's kind of like going to the gym...it's hard to get started, but once you do, it kind of draws you in....

@fun4us2b yes! That's right!

An interesting problem with many factors driving it, affecting adults broadly. Seems the U.S. surgeon general has declared it an epidemic.
