Did I overstep a boundary or was this guy just being a jerk? 😆
I stopped to ring the bell of a house next to a car I noticed buried in snow — with its window completely down, right next to the road. We just had a blizzard, there’s a snow advisory, and the inside of the car was already getting snow in it.
After ringing the doorbell, I heard a muffled voice shout from somewhere deep inside the house: "David!" Then something I struggled to hear, to the effect of, "Who's at the door?!"
Another voice shouted, "I don't know! I ain't answerin it!"
I found it odd but clearly they weren't interested, so I walked away.
When I passed the car, I could see snow sitting inside on the electronic components, so I decided to try again.
I walked back to the house and rang the doorbell twice. Not out of an attempt to be rude, but just because I was concerned about their property, and the possibility of an electrical fire.
First voice again: "[Something muffled] at the door!!!"
A moment later, this young guy jerked open the door and said forcefully, "Ey dog, was goin on? Why you keep KNOCKIN on my door like that?"
Something about his face looked off, and the way he started talking to me while staring off into space told me he was high or something. I'm no trained professional so I don't claim to know that, but that's the impression I got.
I said, Sorry to bother you. The window on that car is wide open.
Before I hardly finished, he said:
"Yeah! It's broke!"
It's broke?
"Yeah! It's broke!" he repeated verbatim. 😅
Then started to stumble over some frustrated words like "It don't even-..."
He was still clearly not interested. So I just said sorry, took my first step away, and he didn't hesitate to swing the door shut.
I was a little embarrassed, not because I think I did something wrong, but because I clearly bothered someone. 😂 I was just trying to help. Guess it didn't land that way.
