And just like that its over

Praise God the shutdown is over. I don't think we could handle serving over 200 meals 3 days a week forever finacially or sanity wise. It was decided tonight we will serve one more meal fri night but tonight we actually was down quite a bit because our state started sending out partial ebt benefits yesterday. A friend of mine said she was shocked cause shes not even scheduled to get hers for another week and a half and she got hers. It might also been cause ppl were at their own church tonight.

It might not be over.

@SomeMichGuy hows that the government is now reopened
@Mountainlady16 No, that was an agreement in principle which requires several procedural votes.

The three who caved might change their minds and there's a new person in the House who will force the release of the Epstein files...

And the country is going to be hurting for decades & will likely not recover its international standing ever...

@SomeMichGuy um i dont know where you get your information the vote is done and Trump has signed the bill. as for hurting for decades thats on the dems for throwing a tantrum instead of opening the government weeks ago
@Mountainlady16 Tantrum? Over feeding the poor and keeping people healthy?

Read the Declaration of Independence right after the inalienable rights, and the Preamble to the Constitution...

@SomeMichGuy yeah it was the shutdown they refused to end that cause the delay in food stamps.
@Mountainlady16 No.

You need to read.

DJT illegally refused to pay until the courts forced him. There is a fund earmarked for this.

And shutdowns shouldn't happen bc of the Fourteenth Amendment. And ofc DJT said that these are the PRESIDENT's fault a few yrs ago. Hmmmm

@SomeMichGuy what has the 14th amendment have to do with the shutdown and he was right there wasnt enough momey in the fund to give everyone their full stamps. They gave out partial stamps and why unless you livd in the middle of nowhere and can only get to the store once a month do you have to have all your stamps at once. Unless the dems planned to refuse to open the government forever over some subsidies that really all they do is drive the Healthcare prices even higher.

@SomeMichGuy trump didnt refuse tp pay the stamps he refused to fully payout the stamp
@Mountainlady16 Wrong.

He first said no SNAP benefits.
Then the courts forced him to use the funds already provided.

DJT thinks being PresiDunce allows him to make the law, ignore the law, etc. He is supposed to execute the laws...

It's all there...

@SomeMichGuy no he said he didnt know if he could legally issue them but u know what if the dems hadnt thrown their tantrum they never got cut off in the first place

@SomeMichGuy once again he was going to partially fund the stamps which in tbe end is what happened. Who needs all their stamps at one time unless u only get a small amount or live so far from the store u only make it once a month
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@SomeMichGuy and the dems threw the tantrum wanting to keep up an already failing Healthcare system
@Mountainlady16 No. Stop rewriting recent history.

He is neither Christian nor caring.
@Mountainlady16 Obamacare was the market-based thing which could be passed.

If we were like every other Westernized country, we'd be saving half of our healthcare costs or more with a single-payer system.

That would take a huge burden off of small businesses and make employees much more independent of a given employer. The Republicans changed the law to give us "managed" healthcare under Reagan, and you see the results all around us. If you don't like it now, think of how much worse AI will make it.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@SomeMichGuy and if we had single payer the government decide who lives and dies and ppl get sicker while waiting for permission to be treated
@Mountainlady16 Nope.

But you think corporations and AI should deny you as you pay 2x what the next-most expensive country pays, with WORSE outcomes?

We could save a lot by undoing the Reagan-era HMOs and letting doctors control patient treatment. Capitalism in healthcare in the US has cost us way too much and made employees slaves to jobs...
