my church's solution to possible neighbors without food

Starting next Monday we will offer a free hot meal to anyone that walks in from 5 to 8 on mon wens and fri in our church gym for as long as the government shutdown goes on. We already btw before you ask y we don't do have a free meal on wens night for anyone though we do encourage them to stay for church. There will be no preaching or bible study. A blessing will be said over the food and a spot for anyone to leave prayer requests will be avail. The food won't be fancy but least they will be able to get a hot meal.

My sweet ex wife was talking about all her customers who were saying they dont know how they will have milk and food for their kids while getting a 129.00 nail appointment. These are customers that show up every other week. Food stamp benefits should be there for anyone who needs them.
Who is struggling to feed their family.

@dale74 i agree we used food stamps while in college to help us feed our family even while my husband worked we also recieved wic for our first 3 kids. Theres nothing wrong with it if you use it to feed your family. Food stamps also btw will buy vegetable seeds and we bought them as well for our garden now we no longer need food stamps but others in our community do. We live in one the poorest parts of the United States in rural applichia

My church has always had an open kitchen event every Sunday where we serve hot food to anyone, and the church office now is stocking canned goods to anyone who comes in during the week. It’s important to help out where we can.

@joe438 words got out 3 other churches are offering assistance both with buying supplies and with the cooking

@Mountainlady16 I think people everywhere are looking for a ways to compassionately help others. Regardless of the reason, things are gonna get tight for a lot of people before they get better. Our church doesn’t normally give out packaged food, but since the church has office hours every day, there’s no reason why we couldn’t collect some and make it available for walk-ins. We’ve been doing the hot food Sundays for a really long time.

@joe438 i teach at my church school we always have food boxes in the office that families can pick up no questions asked. I dont think ppl realize just because kids go to private school doesnt mean their parents are rich or cant suddenly have an emergency or a hard time. we normally have 1 or 2 families a month request a box. weve had 5 boxes requested in the last week
