I don't care, they can think whatever they want. I owe them nothing.

@HootyTheNightOwl very true, I'm much the same..
@Primnproper I used to get bent out of shape at one point - especially since my mother had been using that as a means of controlling me from childhood... but I rebelled as an adult and I will take the "So what" route more often than not.

@HootyTheNightOwl i decided a long time ago that i always had to be true and right to myself. I will treat others with respect, but i will not lose a part of me to please others.
@Primnproper I'm still working towards that point.

I'm tired of feeling like I always need others permission to make some changes in my life - like changing my name. My sister has already admitted that she will continue to use my current name... despite the fact that it has so many triggers associated with it for me.

@HootyTheNightOwl then explain about the triggers and the angst it causes you and on that you would hope she would support you.
@Primnproper I tried that... it just leads to whataboutism.

It's not the only abuse we endured - but it was the worst traumatically speaking for me, mostly because I tried to shield them from it as much as possible.

"Fair enough "dad" did that to you - but step dad hit me for this trivial reason" Yeah, but I spent most of those years confined to my bedroom aside from the access visits with "dad" because step dad and I would constantly fight and argue.

There's also the issue that I wasn't safe at school either.

@HootyTheNightOwl wwll you should remind her its not a contest and everyone reacts differently to trauma. If she continues to use your old name dont answer when she does she will soon learn.
