I would go. There are lots of people here who I would like to meet.
Back in the 1990's, I was active in the ISCA BBS (Iowa State Computing Association's Bulletin Board System.) It was a very heavily moderated collection of online forums. Most of the moderators lived near the university that hosted the server, so once year there would be a get-together in a park in Iowa City. I drove down from Minnesota twice.
I remember one guy who was a regular in a forum that I frequented, and who generally was rather nasty online. I remember him at the park -- he spent a lot of time standing around awkwardly with a half smile and saying nothing, as he realized that he really didn't fit in when people were actually socializing face to face.
I imagine that a lot of the perpetually angry people on SW, as well as the creepy ones, would either avoid direct social contact altogether and thus skip the event, or they would react like that guy.
