What Kind Of Holiday Do You Like?

I’m not a sit by the pool all day or on the beach person. I like it for a bit but not waste a whole day.

Same….l like to explore…hiking in the mountains, forests…I did that in Alaska recently. It was hands down the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. But I’m also a museum and history guy. Whenever I travel, I always research the history and try and find something of interest to visit.

@blackarcher256 so much better than sitting on a beach or by a pool. Learn about where you are..👍

@Primnproper I think so…laugh….it always drove my kids crazy. They used to joke that I was incapable of seeing a historical marker without stopping to read it, or pass a museum without wanting to go in

@blackarcher256 I'm lucky my two enjoyed and took on my fascination for knowledge and history.

@Primnproper You are indeed….at least mine inherited my love of books and reading so we share that
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 kids dont appreciate history as much anymore or even keeping heirlooms..
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper True….I know I shouldn’t worry about it, but I have heirlooms like depression glass of my grandmothers, and hand tools from my grandfather that make me feel connected to them. I work every day at an antique drafting table that was my father’s….a desk he worked at every day….it makes me feel connected to him. But my kids see no value in them.

@blackarcher256 I know they’re not alone, I still have my nans cookie cutters and 2 old table spoons I use when I bake. My daughter is more sentimental than my son.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper I know it’s a sentimental notion….but when I use my father and grandfathers tools, I can remember their strong hands using them….crafting things that were beautiful, sturdy. Do you feel any thing like that when you bake?
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 yes, I used to bake with my nan every Saturday and she showed me all her recipes. I’d never get rid of them because she’s with me in those things wherever I go.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper That’s awesome and great memories. That’s one thing I wish I’d paid attention to. My mom’s family owned a restaurant. She was one of eight, and they all worked in the restaurant at one time or other. They were fantastic cooks….best southern food I’ve ever had. Even though I’d help out when I visited I never absorbed what they cooked from scratch. They’re all gone now, but mu cousins and I are trying to recreate some of their specialties.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 you should and put the recipes together to hand down.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper That’s the plan. We’re planning a family reunion for next year exchanging recipes is one of the things we’re going to do.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 that will be amazing.. you could put them into a book.
blackarcher256 · 61-69, M
@Primnproper True….but we’ll have to see how the follow through is on every one contributing at least one recipie.
Primnproper · 56-60, F
@blackarcher256 well i really hope it works out how you want it to.🙂
