I'm a country bumpkin at heart, though I have strong social ties to the heart of a big city. I was born and raised on a 1000 acre tobacco farm which bordered Lake Erie and my sisters and I had 2 miles of sand beach in our back yard which was the south border of our farm property. Driving little farm tractors and pulling wagons filled with tobacco leaves for the hired help, then hanging out at the beach with friends on weekends (and sometimes with the hired help when Dad wasn't watching), became normal routine for my sisters and I throughout our teenaged years.
Then one day the bright city lights lured us away from the farm and before I knew it, I was surrounded by people and concrete. I get back to the farm about once a month as do my sisters and what I hate now is returning to the big city at the end of our visit. There's something that really sucks about city life, despite having a very successful revolving door social life beneath those city lights. I'm not saying that I'd eventually follow in my parent's footsteps because I already know what that looks like. But I will say that I already know what big city life is and what it's all about, but I'll find it easier to leave the city behind than to leave the country behind when that decision is eventually made for sure!
