No I did not read. So my reading age was half a year behind.
I could not read out loud.

Dickens nearly put me off for life. I failed my English Language O Level.
Then I discovered Hemingway, who wrote succinctly , with little description. A hard man in a hard world. Brilliant preparation for my English retake, describe a winter’s scene. I got the top grade of course, thank you to Ernest Hemingway.

@SW-User I remember finding Dickens overwhelming..but I did love Jane Austen and then I just kept going

@Harmonium1923 There was a great series here in the UK called Victorian Farms. It was brilliant. It’s on dvd.
