My charity gives thousands a month in food donations to the homeless, yet go onto the internet and I'll find someone turning that into something bad

Sadly the word is full of people who can only belittle anyone doing good works or being creative.

I have no idea why they do; I doubt many could explain it, least of all the attackers. Jealousy, perhaps? Not necessarily jealous of what you do, so much as your being able and willing to do it.
