Robert Reich—"The KKK Murdered My Friend"

I did not know that Robert Reich had grown up with Michael "Mickey" Schwerner, one of the three young civil rights workers murdered by members of the KKK (who were also local law enforcement, very typical then)

Paul Simon was friends with Andrew Goodman, one of the three murdered, and wrote the song "He Was My Brother" in his memory.

Also the film Mississippi's Burning ..I saw the Reich video..he really spans the Decadesand makes it personal and frighteningly real
@bookerdana Even Norman Rockwell posted an illustration depicting it, and was applauded by some, criticized by others.

@bookerdana Here it is, he titled it "Murder In Mississippi":

@bijouxbroussard Quite different from his usual illustrations which show a rosier portrait of the U.S.,this is stark and bleak like the subject matter

Thank You
@bookerdana Indeed. I always respected the fact that although Rockwell preferred to depict the more positive scenes of our country, it wasn’t because he was unaware of the realities. You’re probably familiar with this one, too:"The Problem We All Live With" was its title.

@bijouxbroussard Most of his art that I've seen was from my car insurance company though I've seen this one....Gorge Lucas and Steven Spielberg are both huge fans.

I've read he had to see something in front of him topaint it ,once having a locomotive in his back yard..this may be a myth🤷‍♂ thank again
@bookerdana There’s truth in that. I saw a documentary about him, it interviewed some of the people who had modeled for him as children and teens. One man had been the face of a series Rockwell did on a young soldier during WWII.
