I Believe Age Doesnt Define Maturity

I hate it whenever adults assume they are always right, just because they are significantly older than us. I know people who are nearly thirty and they are even more childish than I am.

It would be relevant and could perhaps even make your statement meaningful if you informed us how old your are.

17.

@kirsty666: You deserve a proper answer and it seems that nobody else will give you one so you have to settle for what I can answer you.
It is very normal and also natural for young people to feel like you do. I too at least in some matters felt that way back in (almost) the stone age when I was young. I also remember how annoying it could be.
Of course you young are not always wrong and we older are not always but only almost always right. What makes the difference between being young, bright, educated and clever and being older and wise is one thing: Experience.
I do not know what exactly you are referring to in your question but very typically young people can see that a lot of things in their community are wrong or at least not as good as they could be. And the young are eager and want to change things and they do not understand why the older do not agree that things should be changed and be more effective and rational.
But things usually are the way they are for a reason and even if the older does not know why this particular thing is as it is then experience still tells her that what seems wrong, irrational and ineffective can for a lot of reasons be the best possible solution. She also knows that beginning to change things can be like stirring up a hornets' nest.
There are things that not even the best school and education can teach you but that you will have to experience in real life. It is hard to believe when you are 17 but you will find out that it is true. Very often young people finish their studies and they have learned a lot and think that they know everything there is to know. Then they get their first job as for instance doctors or lawyers and suddenly they find out how much they do not know and how lucky they are to have experienced nurses and legal secretaries as well as older colleagues who stop them before they make the worst mistakes.
But of course you young should not be afraid to have opinions – also strong opinions – or to point out what you think is wrong; it is the only way you can gain experience and wisdom. It also is the only way you can remind us older that not everything always has to be as it always have been. Remember that what on the surface and from a bright young girl's point of view obviously is stupid can very well in reality be right and perhaps even very wise. But on the other hand; do never accept the explanation, “that is how we have always done it”, only the lazy and stupid can believe that answer can be a qualified reason for anything.

@karinaal: Thanks for the good answer :)

@karinaal: Very succinct, Karin - nothing I disagree with. xx

@ArtieKat: Thank you Sir but it begins to worry me how much we agree on - am I getting old?
ArtieKat · M
@karinaal: Age is a state of mind - and I've got a magic mirror which tells lies lol! ;-)
karinaal · 70-79, F
The one who could produce a mirror that told us women the lies we want to see would soon become a very rich man.

@karinaal: Women, I don't think, are as self-deceptive as men.
karinaal · 70-79, F
Maybe that is tru - and the reason why such mirrors would be wonderful.
But we are, when it suits us, very good at increasing men's self-seception. We call it being supportive and encouraging.

@karinaal: And how should we males respond to: "Does my bum look big in this?"
karinaal · 70-79, F
There is only one right response to that question. I will not tell you what its because I do not write pornographic stuff. Let me just say that the silent language often is the most expressive.
