I Believe Age Doesnt Define Maturity

I thought I did. Was raised poor as DIRT! many times we didn't know where the next meal was going to come from. So I began to save as soon as I was able. First job, first check, it went into a savings account. Now turning 65 I am unable to apply for subliminal insurance because I have too much in the bank. SUCKS!
Am I expected to give it all away to be able to ask the government for help?
All I have is my medicare card. Not been to the dentist nor had an eye exam. Not to mention being able to get medications.
