they do, common sense is just using the combined knowledge you get in other classes. If you teach the classes you have taught common sense, if the person does not learn the other classes they no amount of teaching will give them common sense.
Logic, philosophy and critical thinking is all taught in school, it is what you need to learn to have common sense.

You can't teach common sense. Either you have it or you don't.

@SW-User I was just a little humour about 'learning things the hard way'.
But if you prefer to debate....here's my 2 pence worth :
Common sense is sound practical judgement.
To be able to do this...a person requires a good degree of common knowledge, and good powers of reasoning and logic.
Knowledge can be taught.
Reasoning can be taught.
Logic '' also '' ''
ergo......common sense can be taught.
However....like all skills...people have it in different degrees.

@BoobooSnafu that last bit was actually what I was getting at. My apologies for the lack of clarity. I hadn't wanted to debate with you.
@SW-User thank you. I'm sorry for assuming that you were.
Common sense is just basic practical reasoning .
I think a lot of people have it, but just don't use it. You use common sense to make things easier...improve results .... do it better, make it cheaper - stuff like that.
If people are too lazy to make/do things.......or too selfish to care about doing a better job, or too arrogant to learn a better way.........common sense will never need to be used.
Maybe that's why it seems so rare.?

Hm....academia and group social activities are the main focus of schools.
And with more working parents....schools are having to take on more and more - social manners, coping skills, social tolerance, diet and health basics, emotional well -being, hygiene ,...and even social relationships.
Common sense is what your parents should teach you to learn for yourself.

The thing about common sense is that it isn’t really all that common.
