Low-key disappointed I have to post this yet again. Since my previous post is being centered on WORK AND JOBS, allow me to reiterate:

Historically, men never actually provided for women. They simply restricted women’s RIGHTS, from women being able to provide for themselves..

And don’t start dragging ancient ways of living where men hunted (which isn’t even actually true btw), I am talking about barely 100 years ago. Where our GRANDMOTHERS WEREN’T LEGALLY ALLOWED TO DIVORCE THEIR HUSBANDS OR HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT.

I said I saw no good reason to restrict women’s rights. That way they could get a job to provide for themselves. Am I missing something? I thought that was the point. Letting women provide for themselves.

It's not black and white or straight across the board. Historically isn't so different from ancient is it?

I don't know what era you were born in. I come from an older generation, and my mother was from nearly a bygone era. And my grandmothers even further back from that. They were raising and nurturing the children and taking care of the home, which is a big job. They weren't in prison nor suppressed. They were smart capable women. While the man made the living, provided for and supported, in that sense and other ways.

I'm not guessing, I lived it.

@Magenta It's not really a choice when so many things outside the household were reserved for men. Women were barred from higher education, barred from apprenticeships, unable to open a bank account without their husband's consent, etc.

@Magenta yes. I will just say this:

I have a choice to eat any ice cream I want from the ice cream stand for 1$.

You have the choice to eat one ice cream flavor, ex. vanilla, and if you choose anything else it would cost you x5 times more, meaning 5$ per ice cream cone. Furthermore, the people around you would judge you, if you want another ice cream flavor, but won't judge me.

And on top, I have to pay for your ice cream. I also get to say-"I provide for you, see how much you cost me?" 5$ for a cone , just pick the vanilla already.

It's not a real choice if it comes with T&C, huge sacrifices and penalties. It's just the path of the least resistance.

Yeah, ur grandmothers and the ancestral women did a phenomenal job at raising their children, no doubt about that.

I bet if they were given the choice, as some are now, they would choose differently..

And I bet you, your grandmother wasn’t as happy as you may think she was fulfilling a role men placed on her, and she would have probably been shunned if she tried to change her life or walk away. So she did what was expected of her.

Not to mention legally forced her to do. @Magenta

Seems like it depends on culture then. My ancestry is largely native American so ALL of my people were restricted. Yaqui women weren't oppressed historically but I can't speak for other parts of the world or anybody else's culture
