What dies it mean to have a bada$$ attitude?

It appears to be a compliment. I loosely interpret it to mean “you can and will defend yourself, or others, if it’s needed.” Or “you don’t let anyone take advantage of you.”

It SOUNDS negative, but I don’t think it is.
