Welsh (ish) but not too far back on the family treee to end up in England, like many South Walians. Paternal grandparents lived in Canada for a while where they had their kids, so Dad always claimed to be Welsh-Canadian.

@FreddieUK Where about in Canada did they live? My mother was born in Wales. Her older brother moved back to Wales after the war. All the other and there were 13 total lived their lives in Alberta Canada.

@hippyjoe1955 Vancouver and then Calgary.

@FreddieUK OK. That is cool. From the little fishing village on the edge of a rain forest to the city of cows.

@hippyjoe1955 I've been once to Calgary and what an impressive city oil money can build. You're right, things have changed enormously in the past 100years.

@FreddieUK Alberta's most famous song writer, Ian Tyson, wrote a song about being Alberta's child. In it he has the immortal phrase that every Albertan agrees with. When we die we may go to Hell or even Vancouver.

@hippyjoe1955 From what I can make out, they moved back towards Alberta after Vancouver. I picked up quite a lot of, we could call it pride or chauvinism, in Calgary about where they lived and a lot of digs were made to both Saskatchewan and BC. We have similar regional pride.

@FreddieUK Interprovincial rivalry runs deep in Canada. At least the ones between Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC are friendly. The one between Ontario and Quebec and Alberta is not nearly so nice. Funny story when I first went to university I met a young fellow from Northern BC. Of course the old Alberta BC rivalry kicked in but he quickly quashed it. "I'm from North Eastern BC" he explained, "We think of ourselves as being Albertan. Over the years I have discovered that he was right.
