What's something about the US that is totally normal to a US citizen, that Europeans can't seem to wrap their heads around?

Fanatical division in politics. Yet fanaticism of any type isn't recognized even in the USA.

All sides will say they are not fanatics.

The EU has a better understanding of compromise that the USA no longer has. It's mostly extreme fanatics in the USA. Compromise just isn't possible under such extremes.
@DeWayfarer The EU is also an unelected bureaucratic governmental body that is very draconian to some countries to favor others. For instance Brexit happened because farmers and fishers were tired of Brussells controlling their industries then stealing their harvests and catches to go to Germany and France, a privately owned children's farm had two of their most beloved pets euthanized, just because, and they're tired of middle east immigrants violently taking over some of their cities, violently violating girls and young women, some of them being heinously murdered by members of their grooming gangs the UK government turns a blind eye to, then accuses the protestors of racism over it.

@NativePortlander1970 bureaucracy is an indication of cooperation! 🤷🏻‍♂

Lack of bureaucracy is an indication of dictatorships.

@NativePortlander1970 AI generated.

Draco's laws were instituted under the leadership of the Athenian government during a time when Athens was transitioning from a monarchy to a more democratic form of governance.

While Draco himself was not a dictator in the modern sense, he was given the authority to create a written code of laws, which was a significant power at the time.

His laws were characterized by their harshness, leading to the term "draconian" to describe excessively severe measures. However, he was not a dictator in the sense of ruling with absolute power; rather, he was a legislator tasked with reforming the legal system.

@DeWayfarer LOL... pot...meet kettle.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@carpediem Draco was close to a dictator for those times!

This was around 621 BCE. Long before even Socrates even who as well despised democracies.

It's shameful that Draco is apart of my heritage!

@DeWayfarer I hate to break it to you...this is 2025. No wonder you're a mess. You're living in the past.
@carpediem Exactly, we all need to look to the future.

@carpediem @NativePortlander1970 is the one that mentions the the EU as draconian...

@NativePortlander1970 Like Draco of ancient Greece, Trump is the one the will terrorize history in the future!

There's no difference between the the two! Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Draco insured Greece's democracy! The same democracy that Socrates despised.

@DeWayfarer Thank God the USA has Trump. He’s uncovered more corruption that even I thought was evident. I knew it was bad, but holy moly. And look how these rouge judges are undermining the democratic will of the people who voted Trump in. Things are changing. And for the better. Whether or not you like it.

@carpediem Trump is the anathema to democracies! No better than any dictator.

It's no wonder the stock market crashed and still hasn't recovered!

And why the EU is likely to take the USA's place if not China.

The former is far more preferable than the later.

@NativePortlander1970 I have been saying that for decades! And still getting flack from Republicans about it!

This world needs a true democracy which it hasn't had for 2400 years.
@DeWayfarer So ten wolves and nine sheep arguing over what's for dinner, gotcha...
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 more like a wolf and a crocodile arguing or who is dinner!
@DeWayfarer Nope, wolves and sheep
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 takes a predator in disguise to take another predator! The wolf will only see the eyes.
@DeWayfarer The Wolf is the modern bloated corrupt US Government, the Sheep happens to be the average rank and file US Voters/Citizens who believe they have a voice.
