The enormous size of American cars will leave most of us Europeans speechless.

@helenS Tesla’s are huge and every fifth car seems to be a Tesla here.

@Gingerbreadspice Where is "here", please?

@helenS Southern England. I know in rural area they’re a lot more few and far between.

@helenS Differences are less stark for some other European countries .. but fair point.
Ave miles driven per driver is > 50% higher in the US and legal driving age is lower in US by 2 yrs ... both are contributing facyors.
My guess is distracted driving .. phone use or eating/drinking while driving and driving under the influence (alcohol or drugs) are the bigger causes here. Its a huge problem.

@BrandNewMan The issue is that we have awful city planning. US localities have a whole web of laws that ban high-density development in most areas. Everything's super spread out here, so we can't really walk around or get around by public transportation conveniently. That leads to a lack of investment in public transportation, further ingraining the problem.

@helenS I’ve seen them. I think they’re more common in Mediterranean countries?

@Gingerbreadspice Yes, and in big cities, where it's hard to find a parking place for an SUV.
